Genre to ANT, Agency to Efficacy by Kate Maddalena & Ashley Rose Kelly

Genre to ANT, Agency to Efficacy: At the intersection of rhetoric of science and Science and Technology Studies.

“quick summary of our argument: We examine rhetorical genre and ANT, rhetoric of science and STS studies, to uncover what we believe is a complementary relationship that promises much to the study of science, especially in the age of the Internet. Foldit, an online scientific game, serves as a site of inquiry by which we suggest that a combination of a genre and ANT approach serve a critical reading. We ultimately suggest that online games like Foldit, commonly looked at as dynamic communities, actually have potential to be relatively static and to reproduce and maintain a set of power relations by using the game to enlist productive alliances.”
